Taita Taveta University (TTU) made a remarkable impact at this year’s Taita Taveta Career Fair, inspiring and mentoring students from across Taita Taveta County. The event, held today Thursday 27th February 2025 at Taita Taveta National Polytechnic, brought together TTU, TTNP, County Leaders and industry leaders to guide students in making informed career choices.
With a vibrant exhibition booth and interactive mentorship sessions, TTU representatives led by Dr. Mwakio Mwagandi – Dean, School of Business Economics & Social Science engaged with TTNP students, recent form four graduates, and young professionals seeking direction in their career journeys. The university’s delegation, also included Dr.Rehema Swaleh – Chair, Economics, Entrepreneurship and Social Science department, Ms. Dorothy Masawa – Head of Admission Section, Mr. George Kasamani – Public Relations, Mr. Holyfield Onguso – Alumni Secretariat and Octor Vitalice a student in charge of SME NAME Lab/Innovation and Incubation lab.
The mentorship focused on five key mentorship areas: career pathways, mentor linkage, life skill development, in-demand skills, and career opportunities.
TTU career experts provided students with insights into various academic disciplines and professional fields available at the university. From engineering, agriculture, information technology, sciences to business and education, students gained clarity on the qualifications, required skills, and career prospects in each sector. The team emphasized the importance of aligning personal interests and strengths with career goals.
Recognizing the power of mentorship, TTU introduced students to successful professionals and alumni who have excelled in different industries. Through these mentor linkages, students were encouraged to seek guidance beyond the career fair, ensuring they receive continuous support as they navigate their academic and professional paths.
Beyond academic success, TTU stressed the significance of life skills such as communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and emotional intelligence. Interactive workshops allowed students to engage in real-life scenarios that tested their decision-making and leadership abilities.
With technological advancements reshaping industries, TTU highlighted the most sought-after skills in today’s job market. Digital literacy, entrepreneurship, data analysis, and sustainability practices were among the top skills discussed. The university encouraged students to embrace continuous learning to remain competitive.
Students explored emerging career opportunities in various fields, including renewable energy, artificial intelligence, and agribusiness. TTU representatives shared information about internship programs, job placement opportunities, and industry collaborations available to students who enrol in their institution.
As the career fair concluded, many students expressed excitement and gratitude for the guidance received. TTU’s presence at the event reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing future leaders by providing quality education, mentorship, and skills development.
