The sun rose over the picturesque hills of Saghala, casting a golden glow over Taita Taveta University (TTU) sports pavilion as excitement filled the air. It was no ordinary day—it was the long-awaited Staff Fun Day, a day dedicated to relaxation, bonding, and recreation. Days of anticipation had built up to this grand occasion, bringing together Lecturers, Administrative staff,  support staff and external partners for a day of laughter and friendly competition.

The event, held at the university’s sports pavilion, began with an opening speech by Prof. Christine Onyango – Ag. The day’s activities kicked off with a thrilling wellness activity which included warm-up exercises& health talk, setting the tone for the many competitive yet friendly games to follow. Staff members, divided into different teams based on their unions, cheered each other on as they pulled with all their might. The atmosphere was electric with shouts of encouragement and bursts of laughter as participants tumbled onto the ground.

We had soccer game between UASU vs KUDHEHIA which the latter narrowly won, the second game between KUSU vs KUDHEHIA was fantastic one, both teams eager to prove their prowess on the field, engaged in a spirited match filled with skilful dribbles, quick passes, and determined defense. The teaching staff took an early lead with a stunning goal, setting the stage for an intense second half as the defending champions KUDHEHIA wanted to outshine their rivals. As the match progressed, both teams displayed remarkable sportsmanship, with breathtaking saves by the goalkeepers and thrilling runs down the wings. With few minutes left on the clock, a strike from KUDHEHIA forced the match to end at a draw.

Next came the sack race, where even the most senior members of staff hopped with enthusiasm, much to the delight of onlookers. Laughter echoed across the field as a few tripped and tumbled, proving that in the spirit of fun, winning was secondary to participation.

The final item was the athletic event featuring a highly anticipated 100-meter race and a 4×4-meter relay for both male and female staff. The 100-meter sprint saw an intense competition, with participants dashing towards the finish line amid cheers from their colleagues. Speed and determination defined the race, with the winners earning well-deserved applause and medals. The 4×4-meter relay added to the excitement as teams showcased their agility and teamwork in a nail-biting contest that kept the spectators on edge until the last baton exchange both teams’ male and ladies’ teams from the unions participated in the event.

As the day drew to a close, an award ceremony was held to recognize outstanding performances in various activities.
